BULLETINS:

Training
There are a number of different training opportunities currently available for new and experienced leaders of the Gamehaven Council. This training will provide you with the skills and tools necessary to be a productive and effective leader on an individual, troop, and council level. Training is offered for Boy Scout and Cub Scout adult volunteers and interested parents.
Why become trained?
Training
is vital to your Scouts, as well as to each unit within Gamehaven Council.
The single most important thing that a leader can do to help ensure that
a boy receives the most out of their experience with the Boy Scouts of
America is to be trained!
To become a "trained" leader you must attend at least four levels of training and complete Youth Protection training. These levels are Fast Start, New Leader Essentials, Leader Specific Training, and youth protection training.
- Fast Start helps new leaders get up and going
quickly! It teaches the basics on how to organize and run your first
youth meeting. On-line courses are available or you may obtain the Fast
Start video from the Scout Office.
- New Leader Essentials highlights
the basics of scouting. It covers the values, aims, history, funding
and methods of the scouting programs. This course is for all scout leaders
and need only be taken once.
- Leader Specific Training provides
specialized knowledge to the scout leader for the position they hold.
Completing this level of training authorizes the scout leader to wear
the trained patch for the position they hold. If a leader changes position,
they must complete Leader Specific Training for their new position in
order to wear the trained patch.
- Youth Protection Training is a comprehensive youth protection training program for all BSA Professionals and adult volunteers. All registered leaders are required to complete this and it must be renewed every two years.
New Policy for Youth Protection Training Effective June 1st
Youth Safety is the No. 1 concern of the Boy Scouts of America. To increase awareness
of this societal problem and to create even great barriers to abuse than already exist today in Scouting, the Boy Scouts of America is implementing several important changes to further enhance its Youth Protection policies. These policies take effect June 1, 2010. Learn more.
